Two day Workshop on Clinical Research Methods” at Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI), Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar.

Prof.Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah Vice Chancellor Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar has said that the purpose of organizing a series of workshops on “Clinical Research Methods” is to enhance the understanding and to increase the interest in research of junior faculty members and postgraduate medical students. He was speaking as chief guest at the concluding session of the two day workshop on “Clinical Research Methods” here at Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI), Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar.

He said that this training is a part of KMU’s comprehensive strategy for institutionalizing health research within the medical academic institutions of the Province. The PGMI NWFP is a major partner in this venture and these workshops are being arranged in collaboration with PGMI.

Prof.Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah said that the important components of the strategy include infrastructure development and establishment of clinical epidemiology units in the major teaching hospitals, establishment of governance and coordination structure for oversight and monitoring of progress, setting of research priorities and development of clinical research agenda for each medical institution and development and implementation of comprehensive training programme. Director Research and Development KMU Dr.Tasleem Akhtar also spoken at the occasion. In the end chief guest distributed certificates among the participants.

A second workshop of the series of workshops on Clinical Research Methods in the major public sector medical institutions of Peshawar organized by Khyber Medical University (KMU)’s Department of Research and Development has been concluded here at Khyber Medical College (KMC) Peshawar; Vice Chancellor KMU Peshawar Prof Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah was the chief guest on the occasion.

While addressing the concluding session Prof Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah said that the continuation of such kind of learning and capacity building initiatives in the field of Medical Research are highly appreciable. He said that KMU has planned a vision 2020 for establishment of some state of the art institutions in various subspecialties of health, where not only treatment will be provided but more emphases will be on research and training. We aim to divert a major chunk of our resources for research, he added.

Prof Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah said that KMU was trying to change the curriculum gradually according to the needs and requirements of the new era at graduate level through mutual consultation with the academicians of public sector medical and Dental colleges of the province. He said we are focusing on quality evaluation process and for that purpose we established centralized marking system at KMU, which shall ensure transparency and enable us to declare results in faster way.

Earlier Director Reasearch and Development KMU Dr. Tasleem Akhtar said that the workshops aim to orientate participants to the terms and concepts of science and research, the research process and methods, application of statistical methods, and evidence-based medicine- introducing the concepts of met analysis and systematic review.
