Cardiology Interventional Workshop concluded

Syed Zahir Ali Shah Minister for Health NWFP has said that we are facing a lot of problems but in spite that activities like organizing today’s workshop is a sign of hope and progress for all of us, he was talking to third Cardiology Interventional workshop   held on Saturday  here at PGMI LRH Peshawar as Chief guest while Dr Naeem Khan a renown cardiologist and representative of Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America (APPNA), Dr Jamal Jamil from USA, VC KMU Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah, famous Cardiologist settled in America Prof Dr.Syed Amjad Hussain, Chief Executive LRH Dr. Abdul Hameed Afridi and   Dean PGMI Prof Dr.Azmat Talat were also present at the occasion.
Syed Zahir Ali Shah said that health is one of the top most priorities of the present democratic government therefore we are endeavoring to spend much more on this neglected sector. He said that along with curative aspect of health we should focused on prevention side as well. He said that our province was facing a lot of challenges but the recent phase of terrorism and extremism was badly suffered our peace loving people. He urged that we shall only fight this menace of extremism and terrorism through unity, faith and discipline. He said that health is team work based profession and it needs team spirit as well as cooperation and deep sense of humanity. Zahir Ali shah assured the participants that government will provide all possible support and funds for the ongoing and upcoming projects specially that of Peshawar Institute of Cardiology.
While speaking on the occasion VC KMU Prof Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah said that the main objective of this activity was to share knowledge among the stake holders in a most modern and systematic way. He said that Cardiology unit of LRH was one of the advanced and well equipped centres of Cardiology throughout the country. He said that after introducing the most modern technique of electrophysiology with the latest technology of non contact mapping device LRH Cardiology unit has become first centre of excellence in Cardiology all over the country.
Prof Hafizullah apprised the audience that a new Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory has been established in LRH, with in local resources. Two new Echo machines and a latest EP non contact map machine have been installed. Due to these additions the total number of cardio   patients has increased fourfold to that of present one. The total number of patients under going in various procedures has increased up to four thousand annually. Government of NWFP allocates Rs 40 million every year for the treatment of poor and entitled patients in LRH.
After addition of one new cath. Lab the total number of cath. labs has become four, while after addition of two new Echo machines the total strength of Echo machines has increased up to six. Enhancement and addition of these new machines will benefit thousands of poor patients of the province and there will be no more waiting lists for patients, he added
It is worth mentioning here that in the said workshop, first time live Angiography, Angioplasty and Electrophysiology was telecasted from cath. lab of LRH Peshawar in the history of NWFP, which was highly appreciated by the participants and chief guest as well. Beside others renowned and specialized cardiologist Dr Jamal Jamil and Dr Naeem Khan from USA also addressed the workshop. Later on Mr. Zahir Ali Shah presented souvenirs to the guests and he also inaugurated a newly established Cath. Lab at Cardiology unit along with VC KMU Prof Hafizullah, CE LRH Abdul Hameed Afridi and Dean PGMI Prof Azmat Talat
